Aromatherapy Blends for the Holidays

By Françoise Rapp

The Holiday season is at its peak and we are all on the starting block, ready to invade the malls and run around frantically to find the perfect gift for everybody.

So, for this Holiday season issue I'll share with you my passion and gift: the tools to customize personalized aromatherapy blends for your loved ones. These unique fragrant "goodies" will fit perfectly the needs of the person(s) you cherish the most, therefore allowing them to attain harmony in a very enjoyable way!

Become the apprentice alchemist this Christmas, and enjoy the preparation of fragrant potions! Easy to make, it won't take all of your precious time. Nothing is worth more than a gift made with love and care and created especially for someone special! For these Holidays, allow your creativity to unfold and make your gifts unique!

You will find the following supplies in any natural food store:

  • Empty bottles (cobalt or amber)- 2oz.
  • Essential oils
  • Carrier oils (sweet almond, jojoba, etc...)
  • Tulle fabric
  • Organdy ribbon
  • Recycled paper (for the labels)

The procedure is as follows:

  • Start by preparing your essential oil blend in the bottle
  • Then fill up the bottle with the carrier oil
  • Write your personalized label and tight it with the ribbon.
  • Wrap your bottle with the Tulle!

Create personalized holistic aromatherapy blends! It is a lot of fun and so rewarding to create unique aromatherapy blends for the person you love! In order to become an accomplished alchemist, there are certain rules to follow when you are an amateur in the field:

  • Use the same dosage for each essential oil.
  • Use between 10 to 15 drops for a 1oz. bottle.
  • Don't mix contradictory essential oils (such as energizing with relaxing)
  • But one important rule is: listen to your inner voice and let your intuition unfold. Take your time and let the scent of the essences impregnate your senses.

Now I am going to introduce you to seven essential oils and let you play with them! (these blends can be used as bath/body oil and/or anointed on the specific Chakras as mentioned)

  • Lavender: Harmonizing, balancing, blends well with most of the other essential oils. Great for the skin, it is also a good stress reliever! For all the Chakras.
  • Chamomile roman: Relaxing, calming, excellent when fears are present. It corresponds to the 3rd Chakra.
  • Orange: Uplifting, it brings joy and pure happiness. It blends well with Chamomile, Lavender, Peppermint. It corresponds to the 2nd Chakra.
  • Peppermint: Energizing, cooling, good for mental clarity. It blends well with Lavender and Orange.
  • Sandalwood: Spiritual, allows inner peace. It blends well with Orange, Ylang Ylang, and Lavender. It corresponds to all the Chakras.
  • Ylang Ylang: Sensual and sexual, it is the most Yin of the essential oils! It corresponds to the 2nd Chakra. (mixed with 2 drops of Cinnamon, it makes a wonderful sensual blend!)

Once you're done, write the recipe on the recycled paper and make a little hole to slide the ribbon into it. Wrap the bottle with tulle and gather the ends on top of the bottle. Tie it with your ribbon.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
