Welcome to the
latest edition of Aromatherapy News!
As we spend our
days transfixed by the changes in the air, the rising temperatures,
the sensation of a warm sunshine against our long deprived bodies, it
becomes all too easy to lose track of some important up and coming dates.
In celebration
of Mother Earth, who allows us to experience all that is spring, Earth
Day arrives next Monday, April 22nd. Be sure to take a moment to reflect
upon what role your day to day routine plays in Gaia's ability to sustain
both herself, and your future children.
Continuing in the
maternal vein, we move forward to May 12th, the date dedicated to the
recognition of those who nurtured, taught, and loved each and every
one of us, our mothers. The A World of Aromatherapy site is loaded with
special recipes to guide you through the concoction of a personalized
essential oil gift for that special someone. If your creativity is somewhat
low, take advantage of our featured shop this issue, A World of Good
Health. They offer a wide selection of wonderful aromatherapy gifts

| Spring Cleaning
with Feng Shui |

Kristi Vanator |
Occasionally, we
have the opportunity to enter a space so comfortable and peaceful that
we are drawn to it like a siren's song. This space calls to us to relax,
rest, and nurture ourself; to wrap serenity around us. We have all also
experienced an uncomfortable, uneasy, or unwelcome feeling upon entering
a space. We hurried through our business and left at the first opportunity.
The study of Feng
Shui, the art of placement, provides an understanding of what makes
a space appealing or repelling to us. Feng Shui has its beginnings in
ancient China...

Overview: |
|
One of the most
widely used essential oils, Lavender originates from a flowering shrub
native to the Mediterranean, now grown the world over because of it's
many uses, and growing popularity.
Extracted from
the flowery portion of the plant through steam distillation, Lavender
is considered one of the mildest, yet most effective of all essential
oils.
Renowned for it's
sedative properties, Lavender is commonly used to calm in general, and
to treat issues such as insomnia specifically.
It is also a highly
popular massage oil, used to ease aches and pains, and to relieve headaches
when applied to the temples.
Lavender is not
recommended for use by women in the early stages of pregnancy, or persons
suffering from low blood pressure.
Lavender is a middle
note oil, and combines well with Clary Sage, Geranium, and Juniper.

Did You Know |

Some
essential oils are considered 'phototoxic', and can negatively effect
the skin, if placed in direct, or indirect sunlight. This reaction can
cause anything from mild brown blotches, to a severe burning of the
skin. One example of an oil with these qualities is Bergamot.

Recipe of the Month |

"It's
a bit early, perhaps, but I wanted to make mention of a remedy I've
used for years to treat insect bites - an integral part of any summer
season! Take a few drops of lavender, and chamomile oil, mixed with
an ounce of carrier. Apply to the skin with a cold compress for relief
from both the swelling, and itching."
Thanks
to Adrienne for the recipe!
