Inevitably, shifting temperatures and weather conditions at this time of year bring us hundreds of winter skin care inquiries from our thousands of readers.

Taking proper care of your skin can prevent, or at the very least, delay many of the more common signs of aging.   Essential Oil of the Month  

Neroli or Orange Blossom

Latin: Citrus Aurantium
Scent: Rich, floral, refreshing
Effects: Calming, enhances sense of peace
Neroli is considered and antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, and sedative oil, with skin care properties as well.

Neroli can often be found within skin condition oriented mixtures, often focusing upon the management of dry skin concerns..

It is considered very soothing, and helpful with stress related conditions, such as panic attacks, or irritable bowel syndrome. The treatment of such concerns is commonly managed through massage with this essential oil in a carrier.

Neroli is also considered a digestive aid, due to its antispasmodic properties, and can be of assistance with colitis.

General Overview:

Neroli is drawn from an evergreen tree with fragrant white blossoms. The tree originated in the Far East, but is now grown in Europe, Mexico, and South America.

The oil is extracted through steam distillation of the blossoms.

Neroli is considered a top note oil, and combines well with lavender, sandalwood, chamomile, and other citrus blends.

Crab and Thyme Stuffed Mushrooms

In ancient Greece, the aroma of thyme was valued as a way to create a sense of elegance and style. This simple and stylish appetizer is sure to please both the palate, and the olfactory senses...

10 garlic cloves
10 thyme sprigs
1 tablespoon olive oil
6 oz canned crabmeat
6 oz goat cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon chopped lemon zest
salt and pepper to taste
12 large mushrooms, stems removed

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Coat the garlic and thyme sprigs with the oil, and roast in the oven for 25 minutes, until the garlic is softened and golden. In a mixing bowl, pull the thyme leaves from the sprigs and combine with the garlic, crab, goat cheese, lemon zest. Mix until well blended. Season with salt and pepper.

Place the mushrooms on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Mound some of the crab mixture into each mushroom. Bake in the oven until the cheese has just started to melt. Finish under the broiler, if desired, to brown the tops.

 Recipe of the Month

'Every fall my skin would dry out, and I would begin to prepare for a winter full of skin related woes... until I came across this super recipe, that has proven itself yearly ever since:

Add 6 drops of geranium, 4 drops sandalwood, 1 drop chamomile, and 1 drop of jasmine to 2 ounces aloe vera gel, 2 ounces orange blossom water and two 400 iu capsules of vitamin e, opened to release the oil within.'
